Woman has always been symbol of victimization by society’s oppressed forces due to so called inferior creation as compared to man.Still extra efforts are required for women empowerment as more than half of our population comprising women.In such situation some women broke all obstacles in their way,met the challenges of life with great courage and finally achieved a symbolic position along with heroic struggle to achieve prominent and victorious place not only in our country but globally also.We feel much pleasure to exchange views with such a prominent figure,Miss Tara Uzra Dawood who is CEO & Founder of 786 Investments Ltd.
She is Certified in Corporate Governance by both Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance and Harvard Business School(USA). She also holds a Doctorate in Judicial Science from Harvard Law School where she specialized in Shariah Law and Finance,as well as mergers and acquisitions and Bachelor of Arts from Cornell and Oxford University.She worked for law firms in New York,Toronto,Amsterdam and California.She has served on the faculty at Danube University(Austria) as recommended by International Investment Funds Association and EBAMA.She speaks globally at numerous International Mutual Funds and banking conferences and recently represented Pakistan at ALFI Rentree 2020,the Annual Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry.She sits on the boards of Pakistan State Oil,Pakistan Refinery Ltd,Dawood Family Takaful and Mutual Funds Association of Pakistan.Tara is first female CEO of a non-banking financial institution in Pakistan’s history and the lady CEO of any financial institution other than First Women Bank Ltd.
She is well known for her philanthropic work for women and children besides her struggle for women empowerment with the collaboration of Facebook’s internet.org Foundation and World Bank.Apart from this she did remarkable job in distributing emergency supplies during Swat earthquake,Sindh floods and supply of food items during Covid-19 for needy persons.Talking to Auj news
Tara said,historically women work in Pakistan has not been part of the formal sector and often not monetized,that is changing and they are slowly but surely become key job creators and part of the economic engine of Pakistan.Women are generally equal pay,equal opportunity,caring bosses and leaders.She stressed the need to provide no discrimination to their sallary scale and other job facilities at workplace.She appreciated the role of State Bank of Pakistan to provide business loans facilities up to RS. 5 million under their SME loans scheme for women.She added that this step will be helpful for women empowerment and to boost strong entrepreneurship.She also appreciated the performance of Buraq Centre,first incubation Centre for women established by Ladies Fund.She also told that they were hosted Karachi Night Market by Ladies Fund on March 20 to 21 where rural women artisans from all over the country from mountains of Kalash to the Thar Deserts were came to Karachi to exhibit their talents at Karachi Night Market by Ladies Fund at Clifton Urban Forest Sea view.Moreover,Cherie Blair Foundation for women in collaboration with Ladies Fund mentors woman entrepreneurs train ladies candidates in supply chain no commission will be charged from any woman and 100% of proceed will directly be delivered to these courageous Pakistani women that is why slogan of Buraq Centre is “Watch Her Fly”.She is also supervising a program “Educate a Girl”, over 4000 girls vocationally trained by Buraq Centre in Pakistan whereas 1 million virtually in collaboration with Facebook’s Internet.org Foundation and currently working on educate a Girl e-coding training which is another revolutionary step to educate women countrywide.She told that through their Sadaqah Fund they have distributed Food Rations to 5350 families till to date including through our fund for minorities including Hindu families,Christian widows,eunuchs etc.We are working toward distributing 1000 wheelchairs to those in need.The idea of establishing company 786 Investments is to create a halal munafa institution that welcomed all clients without judgment of dress or practices,while always ensuring our operations were following shariah guidances.We have vocationally trained girls in media studies (7 became news anchors,several have won journalism awards), e-commerce(Amazon gifted the best e-commerce site scholar USD 5000 in hosting credits) soft skills.8% of alumni have donated toward scholars for new girls out of their paychecks.
