KU scientist becomes a member of Science and Technology ministry’s committee

KARACHI – Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary has become a member of the national committee constituted by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology to develop a network of centers for advanced technologies in the country.
The spokesman of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) – University of Karachi (UoK) said on Tuesday that the committee, which comprises of six members, including Prof. Iqbal Choudhary, the Director of the ICCBS, University of Karachi would select 15 advanced technology centers to develop them as state of the art centers in the field of science and technology. The committee will meet within the upcoming three weeks to prepare a concept note for the approval of the cabinet, while the concept paper will also include criteria of selection of such centers, he said.
It is worth mentioning here that Prof. Iqbal Choudhary has written and edited 69 books and 40 chapters in books, most of which have been published in the USA and Europe. He is also the author of over 1145 research papers and chapters in top international science journals of the West, as well as 57 international patents (50 US). The cumulative impact factor of his publications is over 2160. His scientific work has been cited more than 25,206 times by other researchers with the h-index of 65. This is by far the largest number of quality publications, citations, and h-index from any scientist in Pakistan.
He has won several national and international accolades such as Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan. He has received the prestigious title of “Distinguish National Professor” from the Higher Education Commission in 2004. Under his supervision, 96 scholars have completed their PhDs, and 36 have done their MPhils. Prof. Iqbal Choudhary is also a member of the National Commission for Science and Technology, chaired by the prime minister of Pakistan.
