Most of the pre-tournament favourites like Spain, Germany, Argentina and Portugal are already eliminated.

Surprise names like Russia, Sweden and Croatia, however, remain in contention for the big prize.

England have reached the World Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1990 by beating Sweden 2-0 with headed goals by Harry Maguire and Dele Alli.

England will play Croatia, after Russia were defeat in a penalty shootout, and are seeking to reach its first final since it won the World Cup in 1966.

The Swedes were playing in the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 1994.

France and Belgium will meet in the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup at Saint Petersburg Stadium on Tuesday after both teams secured victories on Friday.

Belgium knocked out tournament favourites Brazil, with a Fernandinho own goal sending them on their way before Kevin De Bruyne doubled their lead.
