Pakistani origin US businessman offers scholarships to KU students
An alumnus of the University of Karachi Mohammad Feroze Moosani would provide scholarships to the two students of the Department of Physiology KU each year.
It would be awarded annually based on merit cum need i.e. CGPA or percentage obtained by the students in their honors and master program in the morning shift. The selection of the candidates for the award of the scholarship would be handled by a committee that would be formed with necessary assistance from the Student’s Financial Aid Office KU in this regard.
The KU Vice Chancellor would constitute a committee to select the candidates for the scholarship. The committee would scrutinize the application forms of the candidates and recommend suitable candidates to the donor for the final selection.
Mohammad Feroze Moosani, who is running a business in the United States of America, would provide the scholarships with the name of Professor Dr M H Qazi Scholarship. It would be awarded to undergraduate students of the physiology department.
He has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Karachi University for the establishment of a scholarship program. The candidates would get annual stipend of Rs120,000 (Rs10,000 per month) and Rs30,000 per annum towards the semester fee. A student would get Rs150,000 per year under this scholarship program.
As per the MoU, the scholarship would be awarded for the entire degree program i.e. four years BSc (H) as well as the Masters program. The selection of the aspiring candidates would be completed in the first year of the degree program keeping his or her need for this scholarship as primary selection criteria.
According to the MoU, renewal of the scholarships from the second year would be subjected to satisfactory academic performance (a student has to get a minimum 70 percent marks) and recommendation of the departmental chairman.
The MoU was signed by the KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and Mohammad Feroze Moosani at the Vice Chancellor Secretariat. The Chairman Physiology Department Dr Taseer Ahmed Khan and others were also present on this occasion.
